Howdy Kids! My name is BOOKS and I'm the official mascot of the Pleasanton Library Children's Room. I have my own doghouse, and lots of furry friends to snuggle down and read with on the big comfy books of Storyland. Fun things are always happening at my place and I'd love to have you trot on over for a tail-wagging good time. No bones about it! Did you say BOOKS? Then you're barking up the right tree; we've got piles of them! And a pedigreed pack of friendly librarians who'll doggedly help you sniff out anything you need to know. Why you'll even find a book about me in the pet care section. And if you're interested in science you can read about a star that's named after me, the Dog Star. There's a song about me, too, in our Audio-Visual corner where we have CDs, DVDs, CD-ROMs, videos, and even audio books if you want to listen to a story. Speaking of stories, we've got some of the best doggone storytimes around for toddlers, pre-schoolers and families. Just check our calendar or website for dates and times. Did you know that even pets like me can have their own pets? Well, I have two turtles named Yertle and Franklin after the characters in two of my favorite books. They have their own homes at the children's desk and you can watch them eat and sleep and all the other fun stuff turtles do. Does it sometimes seem like the Internet is one big confusing dogpile of information? With my nose for news, I can dig up some cool websites if you need help searching the Internet. One place to start is our Internet Search Tools for Kids page. If you need to bone up on school assignments, we have textbooks you can use in the library to do your homework. We even have encyclopedias you can check out and take home. When the dog days of summer arrive, my friends and I like nothing better than to curl up with some good books and play the Summer Reading Game. Keep track of the time you spend reading during the summer, and come to the library to play the game and earn prizes! If you're in middle school you can volunteer to be a Kid Power Kid and have fun while helping other kids play the game. And just for all
you "Pawsome Authors" out there, you can create an original
book and submit it to our annual Newcott
Caldebery writing contest and have your book added to our collection
for other kids to check out. Just remember BOOKS
is my name and books are my game. So come on down and I'll show you
around your library. Hot diggity dog! |
