The Pleasanton Public Library encourages community use of exhibit space for purposes that enhance the Library's educational, cultural and civic mission. Space is not provided for commercial or political purposes. Acceptance of materials is at the discretion of the Director of Library Services or his or her designee based upon the guidelines set forth in this policy.
Guidelines for refusing a display may include lack of artistic quality, similarity with recent displays, poor taste or lack of community interest. Displays, which advocate illegal or libelous action, advertise a business or advocate or support any political party or candidate for public office are never accepted.
A signed application for use of the exhibit case must be filled out by the exhibitor prior to installation of the exhibit. The use of exhibit cases shall not conflict with normal library operations or with library sponsored or library related activities. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to set up and remove the exhibit. The Library will not provide storage for the property of organizations or individuals displaying in the Library.
The Pleasanton Public Library accepts no liability for the preservation, protection or possible damage or theft of items displayed or exhibited. All items placed on display are done so at the owner's risk.
The Library has designated space for a public notice bulletin board and pamphlet/flyer distribution. All items in these areas must identify the group or person responsible for distribution, provide a contact address or telephone number and be approved by staff before posting. Priority is given to notices for library, government and non-profit local community organizations. All items for display must not exceed the space designated by the Library.
Library walls and other locations not designated as public display areas are not available for use by the general public. While the Library welcomes suggestions for displays in these spaces and may utilize items loaned by groups and individuals in the community, it reserves the use of such display/exhibit space to Library staff and volunteers working under staff supervision.
The Library does not advocate or endorse the viewpoints of exhibits or exhibitors.
