The library has materials for patrons studying for academic exams (SAT, GRE, etc.); jobs, including many civil service positions; citizenship; and TOEFL. Materials are in English and Spanish.
In The Library
Academic tests and job tests: Study books with sample exams are located
behind the Reference Desk on the Test Books shel. They are in alphabetical order by the job title or name of the test. If you don’t see the book you need, Reference Desk staff can help you to place a hold on books owned by our library, or on books owned by other libraries using Link Plus.
Examples of Test Study books:
Note: the library does not have study materials for jobs with specific cities, counties, or states. For that, you need to contact the government agency for whose test you are preparing.
Citizenship test: Look in catalog under Subject Heading Citizenship for books, videos, and e-books. Materials are in the Non-Fiction shelves.
TOEFL: Look in catalog under Subject Heading Test of English as a Foreign Language for books, audio materials, and e-books. Materials are in English, Spanish, and Chinese. They are on the Test Books shelf and on the ESOL/ABE shelf.
E-Books: The library offers study books with sample exams to use on your computer. You need to have a valid library card to access them.
Library Databases: The library offers LearnATest on our web site. You can take
tutorial courses and sample tests for academic exams (SAT, GRE, etc.); for jobs, including many civil service positions; citizenship; TOEFL; and basic math and English skills for Spanish speakers. You get your score immediately with explanations of test answers. You need to have a valid library card to access LearnATest.
