The City of Pleasanton has what is commonly known in California as 'pooper scooper' laws. Any person having the custody or control of any dog shall remove immediately any feces left by such animal on any public place and to dispose of such feces in a sanitary manner. City Municipal code also requires that anyone having custody or control of a dog in a public place shall have in their possession a device or equipment for the picking up and removal of animal feces. The only exemption to this statute is to any disabled person when the person's disability requires a dog to accompany the person or to a person using a dog in emergency or rescue activities.
First time offenders can be given either a verbal warning from a police officer or Animal Services officer, be issued a courtesy citation (documented warning), or be issued a administrative citation which requires the payment of a fine. The following chart depicts the administrative citation fee schedule.
Fine amounts levied against dog owner or handler
are as follows: |
| 1st Offense |
$100 |
| 2nd Offense |
$200 |
| 3rd Offense |
$500 |
| 4th and Subsequent Offenses |
$750 |
Individuals issued three or more violations in any 12-month period may have their case handled in criminal court as a Misdemeanor offense.
Reports of code violators should be directed to the main Police Department phone number at (925) 931-5100.
