Volunteer Programs

The Pleasanton Police Department has several opportunities for citizens to volunteer their time and give back to the community.  Opportunities exist for teens, adults and businesses from both an educational perspective and active participation.

Educational opportunities include our popular Citizens Academy for adults and our Teen Academy for teenagers.  Both programs offer participants an opportunity to get an inside look at our agency including what we do and how we operate.

Neighborhood Watch and Business Watch are additional programs that provide both an educational opportunity and an avenue to give back to the community by being directly involved in your neighborhood or the neighborhood around your business.

Teens who are interested in joining our Police Explorer Post can serve from the age of 14 years up to 21 years.  Serving as a Police Explorer is a great opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in the law enforcement field.  This can benefit teens interested in a future career or to gain valuable life experience in ethics, discipline, and community service.  Participation in the Police Explorer Post is also a way to earn community service hours for school.

The Police Chaplain Program is an opportunity for clergy members to aid members of our community and organization in times of need.

The Reserve Officer Program is an opportunity for those who have completed the California State P.O.S.T. Reserve Officer curriculum and would like to be active with our department in a direct role as a reserve police officer.

Our main volunteer program or V.I.P.S. (Volunteers in Police Service) program consists of a group of adults who donate their time directly to the police department in a Citizens on Patrol capacity or administrative capacity.

Each of the programs have varying requirements and time commitments.  More information can be found by clicking on the listed program or by contacting the listed Coordinator.
