D.A. Bad Check Restitution Program

The Alameda County District Attorney Bad Check Restitution Program has been organized to assist local merchants with bad check losses.  If you are an Alameda County merchant who has received a bad check, you can file a report directly with the District Attorney’s office rather than with your local police department.

The primary goal of the program is to obtain full restitution for the victim without adding to the financial burden of the criminal justice system.  First time bad check offenders are given the opportunity to avoid criminal prosecution by attending a mandatory intervention class, in addition to paying restitution. All of this is accomplished without any cost to taxpayers.

This program simply requires that the victim send a “Courtesy Notice” to the suspect and complete a “Bad Check Crime Report”.  The DA’s office has generated a one-page document with the crime report form on one side and a sample courtesy notice on the other.  You can pick up this form at the Pleasanton Police Department, or you can request to have a form mailed to you by calling (866) 740-7118.
