The Criminal Investigations Unit performs follow-up investigations on crimes after an initial officer has conducted a criminal investigation and has exhausted any initial leads.
The Unit's staff generally works Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is staffed with a Sergeant, seven Detectives, a Crime Analyst, and an Evidence and Property Clerk.
The Criminal Investigations Sergeant is responsible for reviewing every report taken by officers of the Pleasanton Police Department and will assign a detective to conduct a follow-up investigation when necessary. Frequently, even minor reports require follow-up contact with numerous people to clarify facts, acquire additional records, facilitate technical and laboratory work, and to ensure accurate and thorough documentation has occurred.
Criminal Investigation Unit - Case Follow-up
Each of our investigators specializes in specific areas of investigation such as residential burglary, commercial burglary, technology associated crimes, fraud, auto theft, crimes against persons, and juvenile crimes. Members of the Criminal Investigations Unit receive extensive training in their area of specialization in addition to cross training in other areas. In addition to investigating criminal activity, our detectives frequently speak to various community based organizations on a variety of subjects.
Questions involving active investigations should be directed to the Detective assigned to your case. If you are not sure who is handling your case, please contact the Investigations Division Administrative Assistant, Marnie Ewing or the Investigations Unit Supervisor, Sgt. Kurt Schlehuber at (925) 931-5134.
