Community Service Officers (CSO's) are non-sworn personnel who enhance the productivity and efficiency of the Police Department by handling calls for service not requiring the presence of a police officer and assisting in a variety of other duties.
The Department currently has nine CSO's with four assigned to Patrol, two to Traffic, one to Crime Prevention, one in Personnel and Training, and one in the Investigations Division.
Patrol CSO's investigate crimes and traffic collisions, assist with crime scene investigations and the collection of evidence, direct traffic, maintain equipment, and perform othened to vehicle abatement and currently handles problems associated wr duties as assigned. In the Traffic Bureau, one CSO is assigith abandoned and illegally parked vehicles. A second CSO is responsible for bicycle/pedestrian/driver safety programs. The Crime Prevention CSO assists the Crime Prevention Officer with various programs and presentations.
The Personnel and Training CSO assists the Personnel and Training Officer in the upkeep of hiring and training records. In the Investigations Division a CSO is assigned as a Property Clerk to ensure the proper handling of evidence, found property, recovered stolen property, and items stored for safekeeping.
