The Neighborhood T.E.A.M. Program, which stands for Neighborhood Traffic Education And Monitoring began in 2000. The program allows residents who have a speed related complaint in their neighborhood, to partner with their neighbors and the police in an innovative way. The program authorizes residents to monitor traffic speeds in their neighborhood with the use a of a radar gun furnished by the Police Department. We ask that neighbors work together to collect the data on alleged speeders. At the conclusion of the monitoring period, which is at least one hour per day for four days during a seven-day time span, the data is given to the police department for evaluation. License plate numbers, which were collected by residents, will be run through DMV and a letter will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicles in violation of speed laws advising them of the violation.
The letter, which is sent by Police Chief Michael Fraser, encourages the registered owners to ask the operators of the vehicle to drive at or below the speed limit when driving in these neighborhoods. The purpose of the program is to make motorists aware of the speed issues in residential neighborhoods and to encourage safe and prudent driving on residential streets. In order to participate in the TEAM program at least three residents in a neighborhood must submit an application indicating the street, times of the day and their willingness to spend a minimum of one hour on at least four separate days. This program is only authorized to operate during daylight hours.
