Youth and Community Services Unit
Pleasanton Badge and patch 2.jpg

The Youth and Community Services Unit (YCSU) was established to help deal with the many police/youth needs within the community and most community outreach programs.

The Unit is staffed by a Sergeant, five officers and a Community Service Officer who are responsible for the D.A.R.E. Program, School Resource Officer program and the numerous Crime Prevention programs the Department offers to the public.  YCSU officers handle investigations of crimes committed by and against minors in the school setting and the YCSU sergeant is the primary liaison to the Pleasanton Unified School District.  Community outreach programs include the Citizens Academy, COPPS TV, Teen Academy, the nationally acclaimed Parent Project program and our various volunteer programs.  The YCSU sergeant also oversees the department's Police Explorer Post and serves as the Department Liaison to the City of Pleasanton Youth Commission.

For youths who get themselves into trouble and get arrested for minor offenses, there are two available referral programs for first time offenders in the community.  The Department’s Juvenile Diversion Program and the County sponsored Tri-Valley Youth Court.  While we strive to educate and divert first time offenders, not all cases will be eligible for these programs and each case will be evaluated on a case by case basis.  Information on the programs are available by visiting their linked pages.

Sgt. Maria Munayer is the Youth and Community Services Unit supervisor.  She can be reached at (925) 931-5169 or by email by clicking on her name above.

Resources:

The Pleasanton Police Department has put together a parent resource guide of information and resources available to the Tri-Valley Community based on “The Book” that was originally developed by CASA (the San Ramon Valley Community Against Substance Abuse).

The Book” covers a wide range of topics from healthy parenting to teen anger, depression, stress, substance abuse, teen sexuality issues, violence, gang awareness, bullying, internet safety and numerous other topics that we have expanded on through the years.  At the end of "The Book" are contact resources available locally, within the County and/or via the Internet with a short summary of the services offered by each organization so parents can choose a resource that might best serve their individual needs.

The Book” is updated annually and provided as a service to parents in the Pleasanton Unified School District as a resource guide.  A PDF copy of “The Book” is available by clicking here.

Locally in the community, Axis Community Health offers several unique programs besides their counseling services and health clinic.  The two programs are the Teen Male Anger Management program and the second is the Teen Drug & Alcohol Recovery program.  Information on these programs can be located by visiting their website
