In January 2002, the Pleasanton Police Department and the Pleasanton Unified School District implemented the School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) program as a joint effort to keep our schools safe and to establish a positive police presence in the schools. The Department currently has two officers assigned as School Resource Officers that handle primary responsibilities at the Districts three high schools and three middle schools.
School Resource Officers lead very busy lives when at work. Their daily activities include meeting and working with students, teachers, parents, counselors, and school administrators. They provide advice on a variety of topics, take crime reports, handle disputes at the school, act as counselors, conduct follow-up investigations, usually related to students at their particular school, and visit and guest lecture in classes on a variety of topics. After school hours they often attend various sporting events, dances, back-to-school nights, proms, and other school activities and events. Both officers also work very closely with Leadership classes at the schools and assist the students to coordinate successful student events.
