The City has battery backup systems at most intersections around town. During power outages, traffic signals equipped with these systems can continue to operate for an extended period of time, improving intersection operations and safety during power outages. With the incorporation of LED technology at the signals, battery backup systems are able to maintain full operation of the traffic signal during power outages instead of the typical flashing red.

We are in the process of installing new battery backup systems at the intersections listed below.  This work should be completed in the next 2 to 3 weeks.  When this work is being performed the traffic signals are briefly turned off and the intersection should be treated as an all way stop.  Temporary stop signs are placed at the intersection to remind drivers.  The units are installed quickly and easily, and with only minor delays to nearby traffic. When installed, these devices will ensure continued signal operation during power outages, improving intersection operations and safety.
